A lonely feeling overwhelmed her as Selena walked down the street with her hands in her pockets. The grey clouds served as a veil above her, covering the rays of the sun, indicating that it may snow later that evening. The ground was covered in a light frost that crunched with each step that she took.
Her chest filled with pain as she continued to dwell on the Coven's decision. She couldn't understand why they still wanted to separate her and Thor when they already proved how valuable they could be. It frustrated her to think about it. Thor was her best friend; there was no way she was going to let the Coven simply take him away from her.
She turned a corner and walked further down the road over towards where the training grounds were in the North District. Thor had been by her side for as long as she could remember, since he first hatched. He always played a huge role in her life. She couldn't imagine her life without him. It was bad enough that she wasn't able to see Silver anymore; she couldn't bear to lose Thor too.
She made it over to the training grounds that have remained empty since the battle. The dragons and their riders had reported straight to the Coven's headquarters earlier that morning to continue further with their training. Selena, however, was given time to relax within Tronheim, which she couldn't understand until she spoke with Neith.
"Of course they didn't want to continue with mine and Thor's training," she muttered to herself. "They already want to separate us." The words tasted bitter.
She stopped when a large shadow hovered over her. A smile appeared on her face as she looked up to see a giant and beautiful crimson dragon preparing itself to land in front of her.
Since the battle, Thor grew even more into almost a full sized dragon. His wings were enough to engulf the sky. The horns that grew along his head were large and sharp, curving inward towards the top, forming almost like a crown. His face was covered in a smooth bone-mask that ran from the top of his head towards his nostrils. The tear-drop shaped scales were like rubies that glistened even without the sun's rays from the coat of oil that she applied to his hide yesterday.
He landed gracefully onto the ground will still maintaining his posture. He arched his neck and walked over to her after landing on all fours and puffed out smoke from his nostrils as a greeting.
"Hello, my dear," he said as he formed his scaly lips into a smile.
Selena nodded as she walked up to him and wrapped her arms around the base of his neck. "Hello," she replied back. "I have missed you."
"As so have I," Thor said again.
"I have to inform you that the Empress wishes to speak with us later today," she said sadly, tempting to not let Thor of the real reason.
Thor snorted. "What about?"
Selena swallowed hard. "Neith wouldn't tell me." She sighed and decided to explain to Thor of her suspicions about the Coven. "I'm not sure if that's true or not, but what other reason would there be for the Coven to speak with us directly if not about the battle?"
Thor bared his teeth and scowled at this. "If they truly do go through with this decision, then they will have to face the wrath of a mighty dragon! I refuse to let them take me away from you! I will not hesitate to act out of rebellion!"
Selena didn't want to refute his comment. She was tempted to want to do the same. "We cannot," she began, "for we still have our duty to the empire. If we act out of rebellion, then the Coven will label as the both of us as traitors with no chance of redeeming ourselves."
"Can't the Empress do anything about this?" Thor snarled.
"I believe that's probably the reason why she wishes to speak with us," she said with a bit of hope. "Perhaps she would be able to do something about this. The Coven will have to reconsider."
"They better or else I will not hesitate to attack and defend our bond and friendship," Thor said as he walked over and wrapped his wings around her. "I will not let them take you away from me!"
Selena's eyes filled with tears as she clung herself onto Thor. The more she thought about it, the more worried she became and the pain rising within her. Her mind then drifted over to what the Sorcerer had said to her before while in the ancient Dwarven ruin that held Ragnarok. His words about humanity stuck with her, him previously stating about how she could possibly give humanity a chance for survival after how everyone treated both her and Thor. Perhaps he was right and had some sort of point to his reasoning for wanting to continue with his plans.
Selena quickly shook her head at this, thinking of how preposterous this idea was. How could she even think that there was some truth to what the Sorcerer had said to her? He was a demon after all! His words held no truth.
Her thoughts then drifted over to all of her friends who supported her. Chaliss was kind enough to give her a home and to consider her as part of the family with her and Rahim.
Her thoughts then drifted over to Silver once more. Although he acted strange and at times obsessive over her, she did take notice that he did what he could to protect her. He even risked his life to save her, Thor, and Rahim from the Hunters when they were first trying to make it to Tronheim. She wished that she would be able to see him again, but she wasn't sure if she would. It still surprised her that someone like him who was advanced with the magical arts and who was very intelligent even admitted to be falling in love with her. However, she wasn't sure if he truly meant this since they were only children. She only just turned fifteen years old and she presumed that he was only about sixteen or seventeen. It may be that he may or may not understand the concept of love, but then again, he did more for her than anyone would ever do for a loved one.
Thor sniffed the top of her head. "You miss him," he said after their long moment of silence.
Selena looked up at him and blinked a few times. "Is it that obvious?" she asked in a mere whisper.
"All too obvious. You have acted in this manner since you last saw him." Thor lowered his head and looked at her directly. "I can tell that you care about him much more than you would for a friend."
Selena blushed and looked off to the side. "I just worry about him," she lied.
Thor shook his head. "I know you better than that," he said again. "You love him."
"What?" Selena was taken back by this. "Don't be absurd!"
Thor stood up straight while tilting his head off to the side. "My dear, I know that you will see him again," he said again in reassurance. "I still want you to be careful, even with all that he's done to try to protect you. I'm not even sure as to who we can trust anymore."
This is chapter four for my second book, The Dark Knights' Betrayal. Enjoy.
Thor's response is spot on, and I do like his personality.
hehe, we do see some romantic tension on Selena's end.

Lol yeah, although at the same time she still debates as to whether or not it's really love since they're still really young. However, love knows no boundaries and is not restricted by age. That point will play a huge role especially in the third book when Selena figures out Silver's true identity. XD
